(08/10/06 -- RALEIGH) - A Hillsborough dairy is recalling milk products it sold in six counties in central North Carolina. Maple View Farm says the products may contain excessive amounts of a cancer-causing agent.
The dairy voluntarily recalled milk products distributed in Alamance, Chatham, Durham, Lee, Orange and Wake counties, asking retailers to remove the items from store shelves.
The products are Maple View Farm whole milk, skim milk, lowfat milk, chocolate milk, buttermilk and heavy whipping cream -- all with a sell-by date of August 25th.
The company says routine tests showed high levels of aflatoxin, a byproduct of a mold that may affect grain and forage products consumed by livestock. Livestock and humans can suffer stillbirths and cancer if they ingest large amounts of aflatoxin.
