Due to the widespread outbreak of Foot and Mouth disease in Britain and parts of Europe, Maple View Farm is discontinuing it long standing policy of having the farm open to visitors.

Effective March 21, 2001 and continuing until further notice, Maple View Farm decided to close the farm property to visitors. The restriction of visitors only relates to the area of the farm occupied by the cows.

The Maple View Farm Country Store will be open as usual. (see Maple View Country Store page)

The farm management felt that this action was the responsible thing to do because of the seriousness of this disease, coupled with the fact that many residents in Central North Carolina frequently travel overseas.

Over the years, the farm has encouraged the visitation of students and their families and regrets that this action is necessary. Plans are being made to create a video to take the viewer around the farm.

Although Foot and Mouth disease does not pose a threat to humans, it is extremely contagious to all cloven-hoofed animals (i.e. cows, pigs, sheep, goats, and deer). To learn more about Foot and Mouth disease, you may visit the web sites linked below.
