| Calves are raised for the first 2 month in individual hutches. This helps prevent the spread of disease and sickness. After a couple of months, it will join other calves in group pens. | Cynthia (above), herd number 329, is having some hay from the feeding trough. The calves are very friendly and will readily approach visitors. | Heifers (young cows that have not had a calf) are raised as replacement cows for the milking herd or for sale as breeding stock. They are bred artificially at fifteen months or when they weigh 750-800 pounds. |
