Calves are raised for the first 2 month in individual hutches. This helps prevent the spread of disease and sickness. After a couple of months, it will join other calves in group pens. Cynthia (above), herd number 329, is having some hay from the feeding trough. The calves are very friendly and will readily approach visitors. Heifers (young cows that have not had a calf) are raised as replacement cows for the milking herd or for sale as breeding stock. They are bred artificially at fifteen months or when they weigh 750-800 pounds.
