| The diet of high producing cows is supplemented at computerized feeding stations. The bin at the end of each stall (seen at left) has a face plate that "reads" each cow's tag hanging from a loose-fitting collar. A transponder is programmed to designate the quantity of grain for a specific cow. | The cow in this photo is waiting her turn at the feeding station. Notice her personalized tag dangling from her neck. | As each cow leans into the feeding bin, her tag touches the face plate of the bin and the proper allocation of feed drops into the bin. This technique assures that the diet of each cow can be planned and monitored specifically for her volume of milk production. |
